India focuses on cheap broadband to help knowledge economy flourish

An AFP newswire article, posted here on Yahoo! News, reports that:

India wants the rapid roll-out of cheap Internet and broadband services to ensure more jobs in knowledge industries such as software development and outsourcing, India's technology minister said.

"While Indian call centres are flourishing, a majority of future work will involve high-end analytical processes such as banking and marketing applications," Information Technology and Communication Minister Dayanidhi Maran said after meeting executives from British telecom company BT.
