Cablevision may go private

An article by Andrew Ross Sorkin (NY Times) reports in The International Herald Tribune:

The Dolans, one of the most powerful and fractious families in New York, are seeking to buy out the public shareholders of their media empire, Cablevision Systems, and create a separate company for its prized entertainment assets, which include Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall.

In a letter on Sunday to the company's board, the family, which fought to block construction of a stadium on Manhattan's West Side to protect Madison Square Garden from competition, made a $7.9 billion bid to take private Cablevision's lucrative cable systems in the New York suburbs.
