Russian Schoolboy Dies After 12 Hours of Computer Gaming

Via MosNews.

A 12-year-old schoolboy from Russia’s Urals city of Yekaterinburg has died of playing computer games. After spending 12 hours at a local computer club, the boy fainted and was taken to hospital, where he died of stroke eight days later, the Novye Izvestia daily reported on Tuesday.

Local doctors are sure that the boy was killed by his obsession with the virtual reality. As the classes in school ended in May he started visiting a local computer club every day, spending 10 or 12 hours there and returned home only for having meals and sleep. His parents did not forbid him to play computer, thinking that their son can himself choose how to rest in summer.

I never quite understood this. I spend a great deal of time on the internet. I spend 8 hours at work in front of a computer, and probably another 2 or 3 at home. I haven't experienced a stroke or heart attack yet. In fact, my health is pretty good. Granted, I do take some time off (weekends usually), but still. Is it really the computer usage causing this, or is it that the kid was not in the best of health, not doing anything to promote his health at all, and probably not eating like he should?
