Internet fraudsters target British tsunami victims' families

An AFP newswire article, via Yahoo! News, reports that:

Conmen are using the Internet to target families in Britain still hoping to find relatives missing since the December tsunami in Asia.

Families desperate for news are being sent a hoax e-mail telling them their loved ones have been found alive in hospital.

London's Metropolitan Police said it was still investigating what happened to nine Britons feared killed by the tsunami and that they were contacted by relatives of one of those missing after they received the e-mail.

"The message is clearly distressing for the recipient, and we would like to assure anyone receiving this message that it is a hoax," said a police spokeswoman.
