Siemens to cut 4,224 jobs in telephone business

An AFP newswire article, via Yahoo! News, reports that:

German electronics giant Siemens plans to cut 4,224 jobs, including 2,860 in Germany, in its loss-making Com division, which covers the group's activities in fixed-line and mobile communications, a German magazine reported.

Manager Magazine, to be published next week, said the job losses will occur over 18 months with the majority occurring in its business communication systems, where 2,838 jobs will be lost.

A further 797 jobs will be cut from the fixed and mobile telephone networks and 294 in the manufacture of wireless telephones for fixed lines.

The computer services of the Com division, comprising 295 jobs, will be relocated in India.
