Wikipedia attacked by Nazis

Nick Farrell writes in The Inquirer:

NAZIS ATTACKED the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia defacing the references to Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal, who died yesterday.

They added false information about Wiesenthal, claiming he was a homosexual who spent the 1970s looking for older black men.

Wiesenthal was a holocaust survivor who helped track down more than 1000 Nazi war criminals, died in his sleep at home in Vienna yesterday. He was 96.

The changes to the Wikipedia site were not up for long, but can still be seen as the page history is always backed up.

It is the second time that Wikipedia has been targeted by vandals with a cause.

After the death of the pope an anonymous user replaced the image of incoming pope Benedict XVI with the evil emperor from Star Wars. Given it is so easy to do, it is perhaps more surprising that it does not happen more often.
