BellSouth signs networking deal with Sprint Nextel

Via Red Herring.

BellSouth, the third-largest telecommunications carrier in the United States, said on Monday that it signed an internetworking deal with Sprint Nextel to extend the regional carrier’s reach outside its region, which is primarily in the Southeast.

While its regional Bell siblings—Verizon, SBC, and Qwest—have all pursued acquisitions of long-distance companies as the preferred means of extending their businesses beyond their limited spheres of influence, BellSouth seems to have chosen to partner its way to the same goal.
