Via United Press International (UPI).

An Iranian communications and imagery satellite has been launched into space atop a Russian rocket, Iranian news reports said.

The satellite, the first for Iran, is part of a joint operation with the Russians and was sent aloft from the Polstesk space center in Murmansk province Thursday morning local time.

The Iran News Agency, in a report from Moscow, said the Cosmos rocket also carried Russian, British and Chinese satellites.
