AOL Upgrades AIM to Triton

Via Red Herring.

Time Warner’s America Online unit upgraded its AOL Instant Messenger service on Tuesday by introducing a free service called AIM Triton that integrates instant messaging with email, mobile text messaging, VoIP, and video chat to drive users to more of the web-based ads that are driving revenue for AOL.

The new service also links the 5,000-entry AIM Address Book to Plaxo’s update feature that gives contacts the opportunity to update their contact information. Users also get access to the AOL Explorer browser and AOL Radio services, which include 150 AOL radio stations and 20 XM Satellite Radio stations.
