U.S. Sex Offender Registry Used for ID Fraud

Nick Farrell writes in The Inquirer:

THE US' ONLINE sex offender registry is proving a gold mine for those who want stolen identities to commit offences.

Police arrested an Arkansas man after he allegedly used a sex offender registry to scam about $20,000 from credit cards and tax refunds in the name of registered sex offenders. Matthew Buescher was allegedly stopped by coppers who found files containing financial information on several people.

The data was of people from Indiana who had either been convicted or accused of sex crimes that were on the Internet sex offenders register.
