Austin Gets a 'C' in Disaster Preparedness

Well, still doing better than FEMA, which gets an 'F' in my book....

The American Disaster Preparedness Foundation graded Austin a C and ranked it 14th in a study of emergency preparedness in 30 major metropolitan areas across the U.S.

The study evaluated the cities using nine criteria, ranging from technology and management to education and public awareness.

Austin ranked high in management, internal training, general awareness and external support; but ranked low for maintenance and equity -- a category that measured a city's preparedness to help its poor and disabled residents.
