Sen. Stevens Sees Tough Road for Deal on Telecom Video Law

U.S. Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens on Wednesday acknowledged difficulties reaching agreement among lawmakers for legislation that would help telephone carriers more quickly enter the subscription television business.

The chief executives of AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications, the biggest U.S. telephone companies, pleaded with the panel to allow them to apply for a national license to offer video instead of seeking approval for each local franchise.
