Australia: Porn Pause for Vodafone

Chris Jenkins writes on Australian IT:

Vodaphone has put its plan for 3G porn on temporary hold, but is still expected to open the door to "access controlled" services before the end of the year.

Vodafone's plans for access-controlled services are likely to include adult content after the former Australian Communications Authority set out rules for adult services on mobile phones last July.

The move was part of a worldwide plan by Vodafone to introduce restricted-access services for its 3G mobile customers.

Vodafone offers some content displaying nudity on its services in Europe, and is expected to begin offering similar services to adult subscribers in Australia in October or November. Under Australian regulations, Vodafone could offer services rated up to R18+.
