More Chinese WAPI Slap-Down: Encryption Rivals Accused of Dirty Tricks

In addition to the pointer I provided to this ongoing saga this morning, an AP newswire article, via ABC News, reports that:

Promoters of China's controversial wireless encryption technology on Tuesday accused rivals of "dirty tricks" after an international organization rejected the Chinese system as a global standard.

China will continue to promote its WAPI standard and will use it domestically despite the decision by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

China is promoting WAPI in an effort to reduce reliance on foreign technology and give its companies a competitive edge. ISO members rejected WAPI in favor of the U.S. standard known as 802.11i, the Geneva-based group said Monday.
