Welcome Back, Ma Bell: AT&T Reportedly Near Deal to But BellSouth
A Reuters newswire article, via CNN/Money, reports that:
U.S. telecoms group AT&T is planning to acquire No.3 U.S. regional telephone company BellSouth, U.S. newspapers reported on Sunday, adding a deal worth $65 billion could be announced as early as Monday.
The New York Times Web site and the Wall Street Journal both cited people familiar with the situation and added AT&T and BellSouth declined to comment.
Both papers said AT&T was expected to pay around $65 billion for BellSouth, which the New York Times said represented a 25-30 percent premium for BellSouth shareholders.
