XO Launches Wireless Service for Cellular Providers

XO Holdings Inc. said on Monday it has introduced a high-speed wireless service in several U.S. markets for local businesses and cellular operators, in competition with established providers such as Verizon Communications.

XO, which is majority-owned by billionaire financier Carl Icahn, said its Nextlink service provides cellphone operators with wireless links to complete phone calls between their cellular broadcast towers and wired networks at a "significantly" lower cost than landline-based systems.
