AMD Expected to Expand Factories in Germany

Advanced Micro Devices plans to announce today that it is building a $2.5 billion addition to its factory in Germany, a sign of its confidence it will keep gaining market share against its bigger rival, Intel, in microprocessor chips for personal computers.

Since 2003, AMD's market share has grown from 15 percent to 21 percent. Intel has vowed to take that back in the second half of this year, but AMD executives say their products will continue to compete well against Intel's.
