HP Could See $1B Savings in Data Center Overhaul

Hewlett-Packard Co. on Wednesday said it would consolidate its 85 data centers around the world into six large facilities in the United States, aiming at $1 billion in savings in coming years.

Shares of HP, which had also reported better than expected profit the evening before, were up almost 5 percent in premarket trading on Inet.

HP said that after the consolidation its information technology infrastructure would be run from Atlanta, Houston and Austin, Texas, with two facilities in each city.
