IG Report: Survey of DHS Data Mining Activities

The DHS Inspector General has released a Survey of DHS Data Mining Activities [.pdf]. The survey identified 12 data mining systems used within DHS, 9 were operations and 3 were under development.

The agencies involved were Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Intelligence and Analysis (OIA), United States Secret Service (USSS), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The 12 systems were described in 5 functional groups: expert systems; association processes; threat and risk assessment tools; collaboration and visualization processes; and advanced analytics.
