Hacker Hijacks Local VC Firm's Website

Todd R. Brown writes in The Contra Costa Times:

Talk about working blue: A local venture-capital firm recently fell prey to a hacker who took over the company's Web site and directed viewers to several porn sites instead.

Blueprint Ventures' home page said Thursday the site was under construction and invited visitors in the meantime to enjoy "top quality" adult images through several links.

"They changed all the registration information and passwords and everything," said Bart Schachter, Blueprint's managing director. "In the records, it looks like they own it now. Short of a duel in the street, you have to go to the organization that administers these things and say, 'No, no, no, it's ours.'"

Schachter said the hacker is known for using the tactic to hold companies' domain names for ransom, but he would not reveal if the perpetrator had made a financial demand.
