Data Retention Raises Cost Concerns
An AP newswire article, via Forbes, reports that:
Internet service providers are worried about potentially escalating costs and other consequences if Congress - in an effort to combat online criminal activity - requires them to retain more data on subscribers, a privacy and civil liberties group said Monday.More here.
In addition to being costly, the Center for Democracy and Technology said a mandate would raise consumer privacy and security concerns for a wide variety of businesses, including Earthlink Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and Microsoft Corp. The group also questioned the effectiveness of such a mandate.
