New ITU Chief: Internet Should be Run by Key Players
The Internet should continue to be overseen by major agencies including ICANN and the ITU, rather than any new "superstructure", the new head of the International Telecommunications Union said on Friday.More here.
Hamadoun Toure, who took up the reins of the United Nations agency this month, said the ITU would focus on tackling cyber-security and in narrowing the "digital divide" between rich and poor countries.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a California-based non-profit company, manages the Internet's domain-name addressing system. It reports to the U.S. Commerce Department, which last September said it would retain oversight for three more years.

All BS. the internet should be open and free for open communication and commerce. This shows someone want to control all information, It could be big brother or just big stupid media. The manipulation of markets will always happen, It is almost impossible to be so connected to the NET to know all faster then anyone else. Let's be real. Sharing and trading is something that is human nature, and is beneficial to the soul, psyche, mind, spirit, whatever you choose. Don't be so hoggish and try to isolate one race as more hoggish than another.
