Judy Silverstein writes on Military.com:

While millions will enjoy Sunday's Super Bowl telecast from the comfort of an easy chair, countless troops stationed around the world, will view the NFC-AFC battle from tents, jam-packed hangar bays aboard ship, Air Force bases and conference rooms in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Several members of the Green Bay Packers are in the mid-Atlantic, aboard the USS Harry S. Truman, an aircraft carrier. They'll share their time watching the Super Bowl with Navy sailors.

The game promises to provide a respite from the realities of deployment, according to Colonel Debra M. Lewis, Commander and District Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She's responsible for construction and engineering support in Baghdad and Al Anbar Provinces, Iraq - an area encompassing 54,000 square miles. Despite long hours and hard work, she knows the long anticipated Super Bowl XLI will provide a necessary boost in morale.

"We recognize events such as the Super Bowl, are critical for morale because it's those things that cause so much excitement," said Lewis. "A great sporting event shows what discipline, sportsmanship and extraordinary capability can do.," she said, "It mirrors the things that buoy you on deployment and in life," she said.
