Cisco storage execs take a hike, en masse

Guy Matthews writes in The Inquirer:

What's happened to Cisco’s move into the storage market? It all seemed to be going swimmingly (or at least sort of all right) until last week when four of its top storage bods took a walk for fresh pastures.

Chief development officer Mario Mazzola and senior veeps Luca Cafiero, Prem Jain and Soni Jiandani, all in on the ground floor of Cisco's Fibre Channel switching initiative, all retired en masse last Thursday.

The departures are all in "the natural course of events," said a company spokesman. Analysts seem unsure whether to fall in line with the company’s assertion that it’s all a bit of a coincidence, or start talking about smoke and fires.

They do point out that while Cisco has been tolerably successful since it got into storage in 2001, it’s not set the world alight or made any serious money out of it. And this is a company that likes, nay expects, to make serious money whenever possible.
