Update: Lance's comeback extraordinary

What does Lance Armstrong and and his anticipated 7th victory in the Tour de France have to do with the Internet and technology? Well, I'm not going to any extrodarinary lengths to make any weak parallels, but Lance is a hometowm Austin boy, and we are just swelling with pride to see him in the lead in today's final leg. If all goes well, he should cross the finish line later today with a phenomenal seventh win in the Tour.

Jon Maher writes in The Austin American-Statesman this morning:

Lance Armstrong is poised today to win the world's biggest bike race — again — sipping champagne while cruising down the Champs-Élysées as his rock-star girlfriend awaits him at the finish.

No other man has won the Tour de France six times. Armstrong is about to claim his seventh, ensuring his place as one of the world's most widely recognized and revered athletes as he closes out his career.

Today, it's easy to forget that Armstrong didn't always roll sevens.

Go, Lance!

Update: Lance wins 7th Tour de France!

Breaking AP newswire article, via MSNBC:

Lance Armstrong closed out his amazing career with a seventh consecutive Tour de France victory Sunday — and did it a little earlier than expected.

Because of wet conditions, race organizers stopped the clock as Armstrong and the main pack entered Paris. Although riders were still racing, with eight laps of the Champs-Elysees to complete, organizers said that Armstrong had officially won.

The stage started as it has done for the past six years — with Armstrong celebrating and wearing the race leader’s yellow jersey.
