Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival, Sunday, August 28, 2005

So what's this got to do with anything technology related? Ummm. No idea, but it's damned fun and certainly worth the mention -- and even better, certainly worth attending!

In the fifteen years since its inception, what started as a friendly test between Austin and San Antonio has become one of the largest annual contests in the world, the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival. Free to the public, the event draws upwards of 15,000 spectators and more than 300 entries every year. This year the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival will take place on Sunday, August 28 at Waterloo Park.

Join KGSR's Bryan Beck as he MC's the 15th Annual Hot Sauce Festival featuring many notable attractions, especially the outstanding musical performances from a local youth band Loose Cannons and local favorites South Austin Jug Band, Los Jazz Vatos and The Gourds. But the biggest draws are the salsas. More than one hundred gallons of hot sauce are consumed at the event every year. Area restaurants show off their hot and spicy foods at booths, and vendors from across the Southwest set up shop to sell hot and spicy cookbooks, fresh peppers, and chili pepper memorabilia.
