Sprint, Nextel deal to close on Friday
A Reuters newswire article, via Yahoo! News, reports that:
Sprint Corp. plans to close its purchase of Nextel Communications Inc. on Friday, the companies said on Tuesday, solidifying their position as the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier with more than 44 million subscribers.
The combined entity, to be named Sprint Nextel, will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Aug. 15 under the ticker symbol "S", they said.
The companies last week received approvals from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department's antitrust division with minimal conditions. Sprint Nextel plan to spin off the local telephone business around the beginning of next year.
