Data Outage Hits NY-NJ Cingular Customers
Wireless data customers of Cingular in the New York, New Jersey region, as well as parts of Connecticut, were said to be without service after an outage hit the company's data network late Friday evening.
The outage apparently started around 10:30 PM eastern time Friday. As of 4:30 PM eastern time Saturday, it was still unavailable in the impacted region.
A Cingular customer support representative said the outage was only related to Cingular's data service and that the root of the problem was unknown to him. He confirmed that the outage was impacting the tri-state metropolitan area, which includes N.Y., N.J. and Conn., but wasn't sure how many customers were without service.
A spokesman for Cingular was not available to comment but did tell internetnews.com that he was checking on the situation.
