Texas warns against price gouging for Hurricane Rita

Via The Austin Business Journal.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott says his attorneys and investigators stand ready to ferret out unscrupulous businesses, con artists, and bogus charity workers who exploit victims and others as Texas prepares for Hurricane Rita.

As early as Tuesday, when the first surge of evacuees began to leave the Galveston area, the Attorney General received anecdotal evidence of price-gouging complaints in advance of Hurricane Rita, and investigators are following up on those complaints.

Gov. Rick Perry issued an emergency declaration Tuesday in anticipation of Hurricane Rita's likely movement toward the Texas coast.
