BlackBerry Existence Threatened

Via Red Herring.

Research In Motion has lost its latest court appeal in a patent dispute over the wireless email technology it uses for its popular BlackBerry device, but analysts said Monday they doubt RIM’s service in the United States will be forced to shut down.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington Friday rejected RIM’s request that the full court rehear its appeal of patent company NTP’s partial win in August in its patent infringement case against RIM.

The court did say, however, that a three-judge panel will review some of the patent claims, according to The New York Times.
