Parts of Southern California lose phone service

Via NBC4.TV.

An interruption of service has been reported with "hard-wired" telephones in a large area of Long Beach, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach, says Long Beach fire Capt. Jim Arvizu.

According to Jon Davies of Verizon, the telephone-service interruption in the Long Beach area began about 2:20 a.m. when "a piece of equipment failed in the Long Beach central office." The problem affects "land lines" -- hard-wired telephones -- and crews are working to fix the equipment, Davies says. The cause of the equipment failure is unknown, Davies says.
