Hackers Threaten Donor Information at Notre Dame

Greg Sandoval writes on the C|Net Security Blog:

Hackers broke into the computer system at the University of Notre Dame earlier this month, and may have accessed personal and financial information of donors.

The school declined to disclose how many donors may be at risk but told the student-run newspaper, the Observer, that Social Security numbers, credit card information and check images may have been compromised.

Anyone donating to the school from between Nov. 22, 2005 to Jan 12, 2006 may be at risk, according to the Observer report. The school has notified the donors involved.

School officials said they have hired two Internet security firms to help determine what information the intruders may have pilfered.
