Canada: EastLink Tests Halifax-Area Wireless

Via The Globe and Mail.

Earthlink is testing wireless Internet technology in various locations within the peninsula of Halifax, with more than 30 operational access points. EastLink's service covers large areas of downtown Halifax, primarily in the Spring Garden Road area. Within these areas, users can access the Internet and retrieve e-mail from any location within the Wi Fi zone.

During this trial period, EastLink is offering customers free access to its new Wi-Fi zone and in exchange is looking for feedback from its users. Wi Fi users are asked to provide comments about their experience using the service. The feedback will be essential in helping to understand the type of usage on the network to ensure that future investment fits with customer demand.

The trial, open to everyone, allows users to access the Internet from a wireless device such as a laptop or personal digital assistant.
