Chinese Hotmail User Charged with Subversion

A Reuters newswire article by Benjamin Kang Lim, via eWeek, reports that:

A Chinese journalist has been charged with sending subversive Hotmail e-mails abroad under a pseudonym amid accusations Yahoo recently provided evidence that led to the imprisonment of two Chinese Internet writers.

The bill of indictment said Li Yuanlong, 45, a reporter with the Bijie Daily in the southwestern province of Guizhou, sent subversive e-mails between May and August last year using the pseudonyms of "Night Wolf" or "Wolf Howling in the Night".

The bill, a copy of which was given to Li's wife, Yang Xiumin, specified the e-mail company as Hotmail.

Microsoft Corp., which owns Hotmail, declined immediate comment. The prosecutor could not be reached for comment.
