Japan: Oki Electric Demos 160Gbs Transmission

Oki Electric Industry said Wednesday that in an experiment, the company pushed 160G bits of data in a second over fiber across a distance of 635 kilometers.

In more practical terms, the test demonstrated the potential to send four movies in 1 second from Tokyo to Osaka, Oki said.

The manufacturer worked with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology and used the Japan Gigabit Network II, an optical network research environment available to manufacturers and institutions.
