Newsflash: Hollywood Doesn't 'Get' YouTube

The media establishment's schizophrenic attitude toward YouTube reflects the undeniable promotional power of viral video, which sends clips bouncing around the Internet's young-adult user base like a beach ball at a Nickelback concert.

As conglomerates begin charging for programming everywhere from their own Web sites to Google Video, savvy independents like YouTube are being sized up as allies a la iTunes or enemies on par with the Napster of old.
