Via EPIC.org.

EPIC filed a complaint [.pdf] with the Federal Communications Commission urging the agency to investigate claims that telephone companies shared prviate customer data with the National Security Agency as part of a domestic surveillance or data mining program. Telecommunications carriers are required by law to keep customer records confidential. "If telecommunication carriers disclosed customer information to the NSA in the manner described in press reports, then violations of section 222 of the Communications Act have occurred," the letter said.

Everyone is encouraged to give Congress the chance to monitor and record the public's displeasure at warrantless domestic surveillance. The groups backing the call-in include: Alliance for Justice, American Civil Liberties Union, Bill of Rights Defense Committee, Council on American-Islamic Relations, Friends Committee on National Legislation, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations.
