Iraqis Used Wireless to Get U.K. Numbers

British military officials say Iraqi insurgents used an electronic intercept device to steal the home telephone numbers of troops in the embattled nation.

The result, the Sunday Times reported, has been a series of threatening prank calls made from Iraq to military families.

Military investigators said it appeared the numbers had been captured electronically from soldiers using their wireless phones to call home. The incidents have prompted the military to issue a directive warning troops involved in combat operations that their phone numbers had been compromised.
