Texas Teenager and Mom Sue MySpace for $30M

Claire Osborn writes in The Austin American-Statesman:

A 14-year-old Travis County girl who said she was sexually assaulted by a Buda man she met on MySpace.com sued the popular Internet social networking site Monday for $30 million, claiming it fails to protect minors from adult sexual predators.

The lawsuit claims the Web site does not require users to verify their age and calls the security measures aimed at preventing strangers from contacting users younger than 16 "utterly ineffective."

Okay so lets sue Myspace for parents not being parents! This is the most STUPID thing I've ever read! How is it Myspace's fault for parents not keeping track of their childs computer usage. Myspace did not give the boy the girls phone number, or setup the date for the guy to pick her up. Who wants to make bets the PC is in her room??? Oh, and I bet she has a webcam too.

This is freaking retarded. Myspace is not at fault, it's like trying to sue a friend who sets you up on a date with someone you don't know, you get assaulted so you sue the friend??? wtf???. Myspace is not at fault here. it's the girl fault for not having common sense, and the parents for not watching what their child is doing on the net.

Her parents are probably the type of people that say "My daughter would never do that." Parents need to learn to be responsible and to quit blaming everyone else for their crappy parenting. Easy way to keep their kids of the computer when they are at work; Take the freakin power cord to the computer with them!!!! My dad used to do it when I was younger. If they don't want their kids on the site, they need to take preventative measures to make sure they don't.

i have a space at myspace, and the only thing that bothers me is when i get a friend request with people half nude...it makes me wonder if there really are people regulating the site and keeping order, which there should be.
i got my account cause i like meeting people and cause of my friends that are there. Keep in mind that there are sexual predators there just like there are little kids which have their friends in the site to whom they can talk to and send funny things to, without thinking someone they will meet will eventually sexually assault them, and I strongly beleive that myspace was made for fun people and to have fun with in a descent and safe mannor, so it seems, and not for sexual predators.
so if there is no safety in this site then that means no minor should be even on the internet.
If you agree that no minor should be in the internet then you agree that myspace is for sexually perverted people.
Think about it.
over again
I'd rather say that there should be more safety in the site instead of sexual perverts.
Can myspace take care of that?
maybe so, but will they take their time to do so?
maybe not.
a sue is just a consequence of a neglection.
I don't think the 14 year old girl went to meet someone who she knew was going to attack her in that way (sometimes you trust people cause you can be trusted) I bet that if she knew she was going to be attacked then she wouldn't have gone to meet him.

Reminds me of a south park episode... Well the movie actually, where the mother wen out of the way to sue the movie makers and stars, just to "protect" her son. Parents either a) need to pay attention or b)shut the hell up!
