Lucent Faces Corruption Charge

Is this an omen? On the eve of its all-important shareholder meeting, where investors will vote on the merger with Alcatel, Lucent Technologies Inc. says it is expecting to face action by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over its operations in China.

In a SEC filing made late Wednesday, Lucent said it was expecting a "Wells" notice relating to an investigation of its Chinese operations under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
