Stolen U.S. Army Laptop Contained Payroll Data

Stephanie Heinatz writes on dailypress.com:

A government laptop computer containing the names, Social Security numbers and payroll information of roughly 16,000 Army Training and Doctrine Command civilian employees was stolen this month from an employee's vehicle parked outside her home, Army officials announced Monday.

The Training and Doctrine Command, or TRADOC, is headquartered at Fort Monroe in Hampton [Virginia]. The theft occurred near Fort Lee, a TRADOC Army base near Petersburg.

While the data on the computer included payroll information, Army officials said the database didn't contain bank account or bank routing numbers.
