In Passing: Jim Bound

Jim Bound

I received word today that a friend & colleague of mine -- Jim Bound -- has died.

This is very sad news for me, as I knew Jim very well, and worked with him in the IETF for most of the latter half of the 1990's. Jim was very well respected -- and sometimes ridiculed -- for his tough positions and outspoken nature.

Aside from being a friend & colleague, Jim was an Hewlett Packard Fellow, and CTO of the IPv6 Forum.

He will be missed.

Here's one for Jim. He was an original. I've known him for over 25 years, but have never known someone as free thinking and out there.

You always knew where you stood with Jim.

Having worked with Jim at the various IETF IPv6 meetings for quite some time, I can
say that he was never shy about his
opinions nor motivations for advancing
the IPv6 cause. We used to talk about
his DEC days and hacking OSF/1. We talked
about his "farm" in New Hampshire and his
love of the outdoors. You were a good spirit Jim.
