German tech university offers summer hacking course

John Blau writes in InfoWorld:

Security experts seeking to hone their skills are invited to attend the "Summer School of Applied IT Security" at one of Germany's top technical universities in September.

For the second time, the
RWTH Aachen University is staging its late-summer hackers' camp from Sept. 19 to Sept. 30 on its campus, the university said Friday.

The summer school is designed to give researchers in the field of security the opportunity to explore intrusion techniques for themselves and acquire hands-on experience in understanding how security systems can fail, according to the university.

The program is in English and will consist of two lectures per day, running for around three hours, and at least six hours of lab work.

Topics will include programming errors such as buffer overflows and format string attacks, network-based attacks such as sniffing and spoofing and attacks on Web applications, as well as network reconnaissance, wireless security, malware and forensics.
