Hundreds Detained in Pakistan Telco Strike

In an AP newswire article on MSN reports that:

About 500 workers at Pakistan's largest, state-owned telephone company have been detained after they went on strike to thwart a privatization bid, while 29 were fired for threatening to damage company assets, officials said Monday.

A union leader Shahid Ayub said the industrial action, launched at the weekend to head off a plan to sell a 26 percent stake in Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd., or PTCL, had disrupted more than 200,000 phone lines.
