AMD To Pay $21.5M for Southwest Austin Land

Via The Austin Business Journal.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has agreed to buy 58 acres in Southwest Austin for $21.5 million.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chipmaker is buying the land from a subsidiary of Stratus Properties Inc. as part of its plan to build a 825,000-square-foot, $200 million campus.

The land is located at the southeast corner of Southwest Parkway and William Cannon. The sale is expected to close during the first half of 2006, according to a Stratus filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

An email message I received from the SOS Alliance said that "the purchase of land from Stratus Properties hasn’t actually happened yet and isn’t expected to happen until next spring... Stratus’ filings state that AMD has the option not to go through with the proposed purchase." I wonder why they went with a press release now. It seems they can't go a day without trying to make news. How is moving from one site to another advancing the local economy? Only by driving up land prices so our citizen bond initiatives don't go as far - costing the taxpayers money.
