Shaking Off the Consumer DRM 'Heebie Jeebies'

Guy Dixon writes in The Globe and Mail:

The publicity couldn't be worse: Lawsuits, consumer anger and now more signs of potential security risks to home PCs caused by Sony BMG CDs containing copy-protection software.

And all of this is occurring before the crucial Christmas season.

Some at Sony BMG candidly say that copy-protection software, particularly a program which has since been discontinued, but which was embedded in a number of discs, such as the latest Burt Bacharach CD At This Time and Ray Charles's Friendship, has been a massive blunder at the worst possible time of year.
