Telstra Outsources $1B+ 3G Wireless Deal to Ericsson

Michael Sainsbury writes in Australian IT:

TELSTRA will outsource the entire construction and integration of its new $1-billion-plus, UMTS 850MHz third-generation mobile network to Swedish network equipment vendor Ericsson.

The two companies are in the last days of finalising their contract, in which Ericsson will hire an extra 1400 engineers and construction staff to fast-track the network on a 24-month schedule.

There may be an even bigger outsourced project in Telstra's $3.5 billion fibre network, for which Alcatel will add up to 3000 staff, including contractors, people close to the project said.
