H5N1 News: Niger Becomes Third African Nation to Report Bird Flu Infections

A UPI newsbrief, via PhysOrg.com, reports that:

The World Organization for Animal Health says test results have confirmed several cases of the H5N1 virus in Niger, one of the world's poorest nations, the BBC reported Monday. Niger shares a long border with Nigeria, where bird flu has killed thousands of chickens.

Although no human cases of the H5N1 bird flu strain have yet been found in Africa, the World Health Organization is warning of such a disaster, the BBC said.
