Cisco Gives Austin ISD $25,000 Grant

An Austin Independent School District technology program got a big financial boost. Cisco Systems expanded its relationship with AISD Wednesday, presenting a $25,000 Leadership in Innovation grant.

The money will help upgrade technical training high school students receive through the Cisco Networking Academy at Anderson and Lanier High Schools.

"With this kind of training, our children are equal to anybody and we want to show these skill-sets and the productivity … And these children will become role models for their colleagues. Success breeds success," Superintendent Pat Forgione said.

Both Cisco and AISD officials say they'd like to see the program expanded to other high schools, and even middle schools, in the future.
