TV Woos Advertisers by Showing Viewers Watch Ads

A Reuters newswire article, via Yahoo! News, reports that:

U.S. television networks are devising new ways to measure how closely Americans are watching commercials, as the industry battles the Internet and other new media for advertising dollars.

Court TV, which runs a slate of investigative and crime shows in prime time cable, is among those leading the charge to develop more detailed audience metrics.

By taking existing minute-by-minute ratings data and combining it with in-house studies, phone surveys, polls and buying habits, Court TV is trying to show that its viewers are staying tuned to commercials rather than flipping channels or leaving the room.
